Modern automobiles are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Infotainment systems are becoming clearer, more responsive, and more competent; interiors are more pleasant, engines are more powerful, tuned, and efficient, and EVs can even drive themselves. Nonetheless, Toyota is still offering a platform approaching ten years old and feels ancient compared to everything else on the market. The fact that this platform is still selling like hotcakes is astounding. As you may have guessed, it is the 5th Generation 4Runner. A vehicle that has ruled America’s highways and trails for over a decade.

The Toyota 4Runner started as a modest, two-door SUV but evolved into the mid-size, robust SUV it is today. When it first went into production in 1983, the original models were simply Toyota 4×4 pickup trucks with a roll bar and hard shell over the bed and back seats fitted inside. Throughout its history, the 4Runner has developed a reputation as one of the most competent and durable SUVs and has a devoted fan base. If you wish to learn more about the 5th Gen 4Runner or purchase items such as a 5th Gen 4runner front bumper, go to an expert.

5th Gen Toyota 4Runner (2009 – 2022 + Present)

If you are looking for an off-road-ready vehicle that is either brand new or a little used, the 5th Gen is the one for you. The latest generation 4Runner features a completely new design and a new chassis.

Instead of receiving a new driveline, the 4.7l v8 was dropped, leaving just the 4.0 6cyl with an automated gearbox. Except for 2010, there was a 2.7l 4cyl auto option. However, it was not widely available. The current 4.0, like the preceding 4th Gen’s 4.0, has no serious flaws. However, the 5th Gen has more vigor in its stride than the 4th Gen’s 4.0.

The 5th Generation 4Runner is available in various versions, including the standard SR5, Trail, TRD Pro, TRD Off-Road, and Limited, all of which are excellent for off-roading.

KDSS was first seen in the 5th Generation 4Runner. KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) is a hydraulic line system that stabilizes your 4Runner on the road and detects wheel drop or slippage off the road. Without KDSS, the SR5, TRD Pro, and TRD Off-Road will likely have higher travel and an aftermarket suspension.

KDSS has several advantages and very few disadvantages. The disadvantage is travel. KDSS suspensions have less travel than non-KDSS suspensions. This does not come into play unless you are looking at long-trip suspension lift kits and need a lot of travel.
